California Joint Powers Insurance Authority Selects Harbor One MPN as Their Medical Provider Network

Posted on 12.15.14

IRVINE, Calif. (December 15, 2014) – The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority (California JPIA) has selected the Harbor One℠ MPN for their medical provider network needs. Harbor One MPN, a proprietary program of Harbor Health Systems, was the first certified and available Network Entity MPN under California SB 863. California JPIA chose Harbor One MPN because of the superior results obtained by Harbor’s clients.
“I’ve heard about the good results Harbor has obtained for their private sector clients and wanted to know what they could do for the California JPIA and its members,” commented Jeff Rush, Workers’ Compensation Program Manager at California JPIA. “The primary goal of our MPN is not to obtain a reduction in the fees paid to medical providers. We want to work with the best providers and obtain the best results for our members’ employees and Harbor is the vendor best suited to help us achieve this objective.”

“Our clients achieve an average of 20 percent in cost savings with the Harbor One MPN’s high-performing physicians identified and evaluated with our scoring technology,” commented Gregory Moore, MPH, President of Harbor Health Systems. “They also see lower rates of litigation and shorter duration of claims. We are looking forward to working with California JPIA members in helping them achieve these results while enjoying these benefits without the burden of having to manage compliance requirements.”

With the Harbor One MPN, organizations can subscribe to an MPN solution without the time and expense of certifications, or dealing with ongoing compliance. The Care Concierge℠ service connects injured workers with the best doctors and ancillary services. Harbor’s OnTrack℠ service guides the patient’s MPN participation throughout the case to be sure the care plan is always on track and on time toward a fast and complete recovery.
The California JPIA was established in 1978 for the purpose of providing liability protection for its members from losses and lawsuits. Today, the California JPIA is one of the largest municipal self-insurance pools in the state, and has grown to more than 120 participating members. Members work with the California JPIA to reduce the frequency and severity of claims. Through risk analysis and continued education, the California JPIA also helps its members identify exposures and prevent losses.
